Just finished refinishing my old MISR Maadi.

The whole rifle was disassembled except the FCG and all metal parts were reconditioned and refinished with a tough Mate Black Hi temp coating.

The wood furniture was reconditioned too, I went with the black theme so it was black tinted and 10 coats of Polyurethane were layered to achieve a glossy weatherproof finish.

Nice job Mandy, and it surely has a very distinctive look to it.

I was going to scold you for defacing a classic. . . . . but, well done.

I've only ever seen OOOOOLD maadis which were totally coated in lacquer, ugly but effective.

    On the steel too?

I've only seen them russian red military style where the entire rifle was sprayed while assembled. I've actually considered doing that to my MAK (I WON'T!). Looks UGLY, but it's very practical.

Didn't had any at the moment, and there was a pile of absorted grit sandpaper and blocks.
So I sat back and watched Iron Man II while sanding the parts and sipping down a few brewskies lol....

The Lacquer on mine was sprayed whole after assembly, it looked rough, tough and no rust was present, but was not the prettiest rifle around thou it spit every crappy rnd that I feed it, even mini30 missfires, it has always gone bang.

Not sure about that, the infamous chicom made thumbhole stock was installed before spraying the lacquer, probably by one of the CAI drunk monkeys after assembling in the US, this rifle was imported in the 90's.

Thank you Jerry, yes, you handle that one but at the time it had a Choate Dragunov style stock and the thumb hole stock was stored away.

Check your pics and if you see the AK with the Choate Black stock, then you handled this one too.
