I WANT TO TAKE THE STOCK OFF MY TURKISH MAUSER SO I CAN RE-FINISH IT, BUT I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW THE REAR BARREL BAND IS REMOVED. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Rob - you have to depress the metal clip (there may be a more technical term) on the right (bolt handle) side of the rifle before the barrel band can move forward. Sometimes you may have to use a tool to push it hard enough (a punch or dull screwdriver). If the band is loose-fitting enough it should slide forward. On mine I have to wiggle the top and bottom of the band forward and back and kind of "walk" it off. I've heard others have to use a wooden dowel and hammer to tap it off.

Good luck.

Rob,

The rear barrel band on one of mine has a hole on each side, as if a pin could be driven through, but it doesn't have a pin. The rear barrel band on the other one doesn't have holes.

Sounds to me like you need to drive out the pin. I'd tap on the smaller end of the pin with a light hammer and punch (I use a little nail that I've filed the point off of). Save the big hammer for when you just give up. :)

Happy to help, and glad you were successful. Enjoy your new toy!
