If Sen. John McCain expects the support of gun owners in this yearâ??s presidential race, the Arizona Republican must make an effort to overcome some decisions the National Rifle Association (NRA) has found troubling.
â??John McCain still has some work to do to give them a comfort level,â?? Chris Cox, executive director of the NRA, said during an interview with The Hill.

I was watching a News Show yesterday where you call in. A caller reminded the listners that Ron Paul is still in the running for President.
(Me) I don't know is he ?

Also on C-Span I paused to see what they were fixing to vote on.
It was an ammendment sponsored by some one and John McCain to sell off 1 percent of Public lands.
I did'nt stay around to learn why, because I was leaveing to go to the doctor.

To me McCain appears to be a My Way or No Way President. I'm a little leary of this guy.

And you have every right to be! Being the "best" of three worm-eaten apples ain't that much of a choice you might still munch a bit of "worm" if you bite into it, but relitively speaking isn't that "better than biting through two or three worms in the other "apples?"

John McCain and the Presidency

If John McCain wants to be president he has to be the right man for the right time for at least 50% of the voters and the majority of the electoral votes. Just yesterday, after telling the house-buying speculators who were making lots of money over the last several years with subprime mortages and house flipping, that it is not for the government to "bail them out" of their bad decisions, he now is suggesting some form of essentially "bailout". He will continue to try to be the man for everyone to get elected. Just remember that the alternatives currently being presented are two socialists--one is selfish, win at all costs woman, and the other is someone who finds comments from Rev Wright to be just the ticket and who I know nothing about except for the word change--this after proclaiming this country the greatest country ever (so why the change?). With these two socialists running and the chance that Mr. Obama may actually get screwed out of the nomination by the Clintons, I am now the proud owner of an S&W--when (and not if) we have turmoil (I am being politically correct) I do not intend to stay in my home and wait for trouble without the ultimate authority that S&W gives me here in South Carolina, where I can provide protection in my home and have a state government who will back me up should I ever have to use deadly force.

Dear Arkansas Hunter--If you are leary of McCain, what in the world could you possibly think of Hillary and Obama. Talk about leary--these two scare the dickens out of me and are the main reason I purchased a handgun--I truly fear for this country with either of these two in charge. Then again if you live in Arkansas I assume you find the Clintons to be a gift to this country--something we will forever have to disagree on.

Don't automatically assume because we are Arkies, that we condone the Clintons. They have plenty voters here, who will never vote for them again. Granted, they may have some support down in the SW part of the state, but they have plenty of opposition thruout the rest of the state.

Well let's just hope McCain chooses a really good VP that is pro gun and will hopefully have some influence with him.

I'm not sure if anyone saw the post I left thread/post I left. I titled it "Rumor Report". Something like that. I know it had those two words in it. But anyhow, the rumor I was reporting was that Fox News had said Condoleeza Rice was interested in the Republican VP spot. They showed McCain's response to it and he'd just said, really, that's news to me, I guess I really missed the signals didn't I.

Now, personally, I like her. Any flack she's gotten has been due to the current administration. I also haven't a clue as to her stance on guns. So I'm real curious as to what, if anything will come of that, and wondering who he will ask to run on his ticket with him. If it isn't her, who, this I'm even more curious to know.

I mean let's face it. Whether it's Hillary or Obama on the Democratic Ticket, our gun rights are for surely screwed. With McCain, they may have a chance. He isn't dead set against it. Plus, in his speech to the conservative group, I forget the name, he said some very positive pro gun things. You'd have to search it to know exactly what he said. It is on G&G also. If my flippin' back ever quits aching maybe I'll take the time and try and find it on here or from where I originally found it.

Old Timer 2--Good to hear that there are people in Arkansas who see thru the baloney that is the Clintons. It is ironic that the current dilemna in the democratic party surrounds the so-called superdelegates, who are a product of Jesse Jackson's run many years ago. Leave it to the Clintons to prostitute the whole idea of what these superdelegates are suppose to be about and use old Billy Boy to twist arms and probably promise the world for their vote--maybe even a little you know what under the presidential desk.

There's a lot of folks who can't stand the Clintons. What gets me is all the idiots who think they're the cat's meow! They don't even try to hide the fact that they are two of the crookedest a'holes in politics! I almost get sick when I see their faces on TV. I can't get the channel changed fast enough!! What do people see in them, except maybe power for the left?

Condoleeza Rice has made a statement regarding personal ownership of firearms.
she said that in her youth, her father had firearms and was prepared to use them to protect some of his church members who were in danger. He did not trust the authorities to provide protection under the circumstances. She indicated that the right to keep arms was an individual right because even if you are on the side of good, the authorities may not or may not be able to protect you.

I am sure their socialist agenda plays a small role, after all, it only costs us people who work and pay taxes.

Sorry Guys

I know I am the new guy and all, but I can't vote for McCain either. Third party for me this election. Hillary and Obama? I think most of us here are in agreement, no thanks. The fact that my NRA has to review his record to try to pull out a reason to support him really pizzes me off. :zx11pissed: I understand that by not voting for him one of the other two 'democrats' might get elected but sooner or later the Republican party had better start moving back right and stop catering to the 'center' or I will be third party full time.

Glockmeister,
Condoleeza Rice is as pro gun as any of us here, that's what I love about her. And by pro gun I don't mean like most of them who say they are. (they think the 2nd amd. is so we can go hunting).
She knows damn well what the second A is for and doesn't want it tampered with in any way, such as bans on any semi autos. Cool lady.

Condi's sincere pro-freedom views weren't allowed to show much during her service in the cabinet during the war on terror. If anything, I'd be worried that her association with Bush's missteps would show her more unfavorably than she deserves.

I'm very glad the the NRA is standing up to McCain. As pro-gun as he's talking, they could easily just shoo him in, but instead they're asking him the hard questions. Still giving him a chance, but not giving him a free ride as the lesser of two (or three) evils. Just like we should be doing.

No matter what you do, DON'T STAY HOME! Vote third party if you cannot vote for McCain, but at least make your voice heard so that the repubs know what they have to lose by running someone like McCain

Condi is pushing hard for the North American Free Trade Union. I don't know if this her true feelings or if she is just trying to do a good job for the Administration she is working for. Before considering her for V. P. I would like to know her true opinion on this.
