I've been kicking myself for not getting one when they were $75 on sale at Dunhams, and wonder if I'll see such a deal again. Anyone know how many came over, who's selling them (like wholesalers), and stuff like that? And what indicates a good specimen? I'm kind of partial to the long barrels, but I like bent bolts too and hate the sites, but could live with them. Any other sites available? And how would these compare to the similarly designed Turks and Persians?
And are their bayonets interchangeable with other 98 Mausers?

The 98/22 is a Czech-made weapon of high quality, for a Turkish contract - they needed more guns for their "Turkish War Of Independence" against the Greeks - 1920 to 1922. As with all Turkish weapons, they were "rode hard and put away wet" - conditions vary. My buddy has one that is very well used (NRA "good") but is still a good shooter. These rifles have history and character. Generally the rear sights are marked in Arabic, adding an exotic flair. Look for the usual things - good bore, all parts in place, decent wood, etc.

These rifles were made at the Czech BRNO factory, and also used by China - some were used in the Korean War!

santa brought me a great looking one at christmas time, i am sure he got it from dunhams and from what i understand they have beau coup mausers. the stock on mine is perfect and made of walnut, which i thought was weird. it was produced at the brno factory. the bluing is 99 percent. not one spec of wear on the bolt etc. it appears brand new. i keep looking at it to see if i can detect some kind of wear, but as of this writing there is none. as a result i am going to restore this rifle, which will not take much work. i have the original cleaning rod and i also got a bayonet, but it is not the original one. check around at a couple of dunham stores, as their inventory will vary from store to store.

I have aquired two 98/22 with two different reciever marks by BRNO. One has rollercoaster sights, the other has 98 style ladder sights. I have not fired them yet
and one looks nearly unfired, the other is a Warhorse veteran.
