Just bought a Mossberg US44(a) with a factory 4X scope at a gun show this weekend. The barrel has been cut down to 24" and it may have had a home re-blueing, what's left is really splotchy and mostly brown. The bore is clean and shiny and the gun just needed a good cleaning. The stock is really nice, but missing the sling swivels. The scope is marked MOSSBERG No. M4D, and under that 4 POWER. It's 3/4" diameter by14 3/8" long with a removeable rubber eye piece. The mount is aluminum and unmarked. I payed $140.
I was going to shoot it today but the Iowa weather didn't agree, dumping a bunch of the white stuff on us.
My father-in-law had a (I belive) model 43 that I babysat for about 6 years and fell in love with it. A few years after he died I had a fit of concious and gave it to my brother-in-law, it was his dad's and it should be his. I think he had forgotten about it untill I handed it to him, he looked like he took a trip down memory lane, muttering "Wow, I learned to shoot with this" , so I figured I'd done the right thing.
Ever since I've had my eyes open for one a the gun shows. Three weeks ago I saw this one at a show but didn't have enough cash and the #*&@!! ATM was broken. The dealer said he wasn't going to any other shows untill this one last weekend, so I made sure I had the cash and was there opening night.
Anyway, there's my Mossberg story. :D

Welcome to the Mossberg owners fraternity, Bill!

I'm up to six Mossbergs now, but don't have a Model 44US yet.

For any parts you need, check out Havlin Sales - Vic and Cheryl are good people, and have authored the definitive book on Mossbergs too.

They are offering repro sling swivels and a nifty scope mount that has a Weaver rail, so can accept modern scopes.

We'll enjoy hearing a range report, once the white stuff goes away. ;)

Range report

Thank's for your replys and the link, looks like it will come in handy. Well, I took her to the range, despite the snow,( OK, I was using a 50 ft indoor range :D ) got everything set on the bags to see where the scope was at and got a "click" instead of a "bang". The firing pin is just denting the cartridge, but not enough to fire. So, when I get the time I'll dig into it and see what I can see. Hopefully it won't be too long, I'm dieing to see how she shoots! Till I can give a shooting report, happy shooting, Bullit BIll.
