By all means, Nascarlady enlighten us as to what NAFTA did to textiles. There might be a Democrat out there in a duck blind playing with his dead bird who needs to realize what the Clintons and the Democrats did to this once great nation of ours and why the working people chose Mr. Trump to try and make it great again instead of giving a theif like CLinton the keys to the White House.
The common man was not as stupid as the common democrat and none of them were fooled by Mrs. Clintons bogus claim to be against Free Trade Swindles.
Remember- from stealing toilet paper off the roll holder to stealing millions from Haitian earthquake refugees there is no swindle too big or too small for a Clinton.

I dunno, those sweat shops are tough but if they did not exist many of those 12 year old children would turn to prostitution to help support their families, not a very good choice eh? :(

Hmmmm... China is not a NAFTA partner either. The OP is way off once again.
BTW, our Republican senators from Iowa are in favor of NAFTA and the tens of millions of dollars worth of grain going to Mexico yearly as a result of NAFTA. Money talks.......

Looks like Maduro is going to ride this out, all the way to his last days in the proverbial bunker. Too proud to admit defeat. They'll drag his body through the streets.

After that, a power vacuum. I'll guess Russia fills it.

What does NAFTA have to do with this? NAFTA is a treaty that only applies to the US, Canada and Mexico.

And GM has been in Venezuela for over 40 years before NAFTA was even established.

This whole thing with the GM Plant is just a straight up communist/socialist dictator seizing power by nationalizing as many private entities as he can, agriculture, retail, manufacturing, the press... etc.

And it's not like GM didn't see this coming. There are many other well known name brand international companies that have assets there from the US, Europe and Asia and over the past few years the Venezualan Government has or has been trying to seize all of their assets as well.

This has been going on for a couple years.

Some were seized, some are still in legal battles (like Ford) to essentially pay off the government and buy themselves time and other foreign companies have just said "screw it" and pulled the ejection seat handles and sold off their assets for cheap just so they could legally abandon that craphole of a country and write it off as a loss and move on.

Maybe GM was just hoping for another government bailout (but this time from a communist one)... they didn't get it...

Although auto sales in that country have been going down for years and the plant that was seized was not even operational and has not made any cars there in 5 years.... They just used the place to sell spare parts.

GM had been paying some of it's staff regardless to run a non-working car factory and keep the boilers warmed so to speak.

I suppose GM was just trying to wait out the Venezuelan government and hope for a quick turn around. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen and if any drastic change happens it could very well possibly be when the people revolt and we have another civil war going on in the world...

If you are familiar with what is going on in Venezuala right now, you realize that they did not seize it to take it over and manufacture anything. Its just theft. They stole the company cars there and anything else that can be sold for food or medicine.
In the hospitals in Venezuala right now they do not even have bleach to clean the operating room, let alone medicines.
Bread lines. No food. Government seizing (stealing) crops from farmers, etc...
    Typical Socialist Paradise.
When Venezuala's economy was good was before Hugo Chavez and Socialism came in. At one time Venezuala's standard of living was only behind the US. In no time flat Chavez and Socialism did what they always do- turned it into a$#!+hole.

Yes I realize that, and you just summed up what the current communist regime take over to bail themselves out (along with the mass money printing) is doing pretty well, and thus that is why I asked what any of that has to do with NAFTA?

All of GM's problems stem from a dictator taking power and robbing and stealing and pillaging all of the domestic and foreign assets in his country...(some like GM that have been there since 1948) and has nothing to do with a trade treaty that applies only the US, Canada and Mexico that was established in 1994. :)

NAFTA was expanded during the Clinton and Bush administrations to include virtually all of the Americas. I tried to post that 5 minutes ago and it just timed out. This is getting pretty ridiculous...

    "(Archived document)

978 February 24,1994 THE NEXT STEP AFTER NAFTA EXPANDING FREETRADE IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARI BBEAN INTRODUCTION The November 17 approval of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA paves the way for the Clinton Administration to launch a program to spread free trade throughout the Western Hemisphere. The NAFTA, followed by the successful conclusion of the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) on December 15, are victories for international engagement and economic competition over withdrawal and complacency. The White House now has the momentum to develop a constructive and prosperous free trade agenda in, the Americas."

At one point, Hugo Chavez tried unsuccessfully to start his own NAFTA with Bolivia and Uraguay- with little success....
Apparently the world is not knocking down the door to get a car built in Uraguay.... or a knock off of an ATV made in Bolivia...

Venezuela is flying in 50 metric tons of Bolivars twice a week now. Thats a lot of printed money.

The original printer in Doncaster, UK is at capacity so now more is being printed in Germany.

Makes you wonder how the printers are getting paid....

Very good question. Shares of GM? LOL. Probably paid by Soros or someone like that.

How can the Soroses, Sanderses, and Clintons of the world not look at Venezuela and re-think their entire world view? Yet another tragic failure of their beloved Communism. It just hasn't been tried by the right people yet. Gotta find some country where the populace is addicted to drugs - opioids, MJ, meth, crack, Ritalin, whatever it takes - so they won't rise up. And find enough crony capitalists to fund the government so it doesn't run out of other people's money.

Again... GM moved and expanded its operations outside the US to Venezuela over four decades before NAFTA.

NAFTA had nothing to do as a motivation for GM to relocate to South America, just as it it has nothing to do with the current government seizure of GM property there.

The communist government was going to try to seize their stuff whether NAFTA existed or not.

You can surely blame NAFTA for a great many things we are not in disagreement on that point SunWheel, but I don't think this predicament with GM isn't one of those unfortunate things that you can chalk up NAFTA.

Soros KNOWS what a crock socialism is, he started much of it. Destabilizing and destroying the economies of nations is a game to him, and he has been playing it a long time. The mayhem warms the cockels of his coal black rotten heart. Remember, he is "EVIL PERSONIFIED".

It's true, the Marxist leaders know it's pure BS. But they also know that there are millions of useful idiot snowflakes that think it's unicorns and rainbows, and they exploit them for all they're worth in pursuit of absolute power.

That doesn't prove that the theory of Communism has one shred of validity, and that if only the leaders believed in it it'd work just fine. It's still a sad farce based on envy and hate.
