i just ordered a new 96/44 from a dealer, i would like to know if any of you have had any experiences with this gun, like the accuracy, durability, and if it can feed reliably. i was going to choose either a marlin/winchester lever action but i wanted the small size and a magazine which ruger was able to offer. any suggestions would be appreciated. thank you

I've heard super reports about it's accuracy and performance. It has a quick lever stroke that's really sweet and the magazines are really handy. I think that the reason this rifle gets little attention is the overshadowing of it by the Ruger semi-auto Deerfield and the Western style lever actions. You cannot go wrong with your purchase in my opinion. The Deerfield and the 77/44 take the same mags as the 96/44.
Just for your info.:I've been told that the 77/44 is the most accurate .44 mag made, period, (from Texas dealers). Wish you well.

Hitemhard, I got one for my youngest son 2 years ago. It is one sweet shooting, handling rifle. I think you made the best decision, between it and the Marlin, Winchesters. It resides in my youngest sons gun rack in his bedroom. He's moved away from home earning his way in life with a new job. Sometimes I take it down and wished I had one like it. But I just clean 'em up, and keep 'em oiled. My oldest is in the Marines, and I do the same for him. I got plenty of my own to keep me happy shooting.
