I have recently acquired an M1A in trade. The rifle is in near mint condition, Standard grade with all fiberglass furniture, bayo lug etc. The question I have is that the serial number on the receiver is 0008XX; a number on the bolt is: 7790XXX with "HRT A17" and "BOC" or BDC" underneath the other two. Is this a "parts gun" due to the different numbers or what?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Springfield Rifles may have any number of bolt manufacturers. I believe yours was made by Harrington & Richardson. The other numbers are just parts-casting numbers. Your trigger group, op rod may also be made by other manufacturers. Not to worrry, you would be lucky to get one with all TRW, HR, etc. parts. I guess you could call it a parts gun as Springfield made the receiver and maybe barrel. The rest of the parts are usually USGI. I have answered your question although I am NO expert. Other opinions may follow, but I believe I am mostly correct.
