This new to me Garand followed me home on Friday. I've started to do a little digging into the serial numbers and figuring out what I have. I'm sure there are some experts on here that can help me out, if I'm missing something important or have it wrong. I've shared some of this in a couple other places too.
  • s/n 1,11X,XXX - Jan 1943 Springfield Armory
  • Barrel – CBI 3/11 (Criterion re-barrel March 2011
  • Bolt is marked as 19SA
  • Trigger housing stamped with – 12-SA which would be correct for this M1
  • Hammer stamped – IHC International Harvester (I think)
  • Wooden stock stamped with CMP cartouche indicating it’s been replaced.
  • Toe tag from CMP had it as a grade 3

Very nice CMP Refurb. I have read about CMP having them now in several grades. I have one not refurbed and bought from someone and like to get the stock done like yours. Few places do it but costly. Im curious what she cost ya. These are running $900 to $1300 now at CMP. I paid about $1,000 for my original one and not near as pretty as yours.

I can't tell you the price because a friend picked it up at the CMP a while back and has been holding on to it, waiting to give it to me as a gift. The best that I can tell is that it's either an expert or special+ grade from what I've been able to find out. I removed the stock and it's stamped Dupage on the inside of it. They have their own site and charge $160 for a new stock set. M1 GARAND STOCK SET | Dupage Trading Company

I did manage to tear it down and start to finish the wooden stock. So far I've sanded out some of the nicks, hit it with somw 0000 Steel-wool and added 3 coats of Tung Oil with a brisk buffing after 10 minutes of soaking each time. I think that it's coming along nicely and should be all cleaned greased/oiled and back together by the weekend.
