Hi all,
Looking to purchase another M1 Garand.
This one is purportedly an original unrefurbished 1943 unit.
My question is: What is the significance of the electro-penciled numbers on the bolt?
Do they enhance or detract from the rifle?
There is no provenance with the gun to explain them.

Do they match the rifle's serial number? If not they may have matched another rifle and be a replacement bolt. However I am not an expert. electro penciled numbers I have seen are usually on foreign imports like my Mosin.

The numbers do not coincide with the serial number.

That bolt has evidently been replaced for some reason. Maybe rifle has been re arsenalled.

If a rebuild was done at Depot or a US Gov't arsenal (which was common) they would have replaced the bolt with another, checked the head space to verify it passed and put rifle back in service. Unlike some foreign military arms Garand parts are NOT serial numbered to the rifle.

That electro-pencil job is a bubba job and IMO takes away from the value of the rifle.
