I'm going on the hunt soon for a truck gun. My new truck has a compartment roughly 8.5" x 5" x 3.5" in which I can store a self-defense pistol when traveling about the area. My favorite sidearm - my short-barreled Redhawk in .45 Colt just barely does not fit in the compartment. My full-sized Sig P220 does fit, but it's a little large for warm weather concealed carry. I'd prefer .45 ACP, but 9mm and up would be acceptable. The idea is that when in the truck, the pistol goes into the compartment, where it is handy for driver or passenger (usually my wife) to access. When getting out of the truck, it goes into the concealed carry holster. Time to do some research.
Easy answer for me, if you want 45 acp. I have a Colt Officer's model for over 40 years now, perfect little gun in every way. The Kimber carry is similar and the Springfield EMP is great as well. I build and modify 1911's as a hobby. I use Armscor/Rock Island frames and parts as do many builders. If I wanted a new one, I would have to probably go with the stainless officer's model copy the make. https://armscor.com/firearms/ria/rock-series/stainless-steel-1911-cs-45acp-ecs/
I have zero worries about the quality and reliability of the Rock Island brand these days. Everybody makes good 1911s these days and the extra $300-$400-$1,000 for an upscale 1911 is just wasted money to me. If I were to carry a small caliber and I do, I would just go with the Glock 43 or Ruger LC9s (the best trigger on any stock gun today--4.5 pounds) or any a 100 small 9mms. The Shield, Ruger, Taurus, Mossberg, Hellcat, they all work about the same or even the 9mm version of the Rock Island would do fine. FWIW
I am not a Glock fan. I don't like the way they feel, and because of that, the few times I've had a chance to shoot one, I couldn't hit anything with it.
Sounds like a S&W CS-45 would work if ya can find one!
