My grandfather recently passed down an excellent condition rifle into my hands, however he had no information about it. I've searched up and down the internet trying to find a possible match, but have only come close a few times.

This is what it says on the barrel:

    Savage Arms Corporation
SPRINGFIELD Westfield, MASS U.S.A. Model 840
    Proof Tested-Cal .222 REM

I'll try to put up a picture as soon as possible

    Thanks!

While they are marked M840 , They are a Model 340 But was changed to 840 late in production...
They sell for around 150 to 200 dollars In 80% to 98% shape !

Good little rifles, but built to be an economy alternative to the full-size M110/M112 series. Needs a special side-mount scope mounting, and is difficult to reload for heavy bullets due to the short magazine. Makes a great little varminter using the light 110 grain bullets though!

Thanks guys for the help! That really helped a lot. And yeah actually it came with that special side-mount scope already with it. I think I'll clean and lube it and give it a shot.

    thanks again

My first deer rifle was a .222! Man I wish I had that rifle now!
