What is funny in this photo? Thanks,,Rick B
Looks like there is padding on the fore stock area and the front site looks weird. That and the hat has to be the ugliest hat I've ever seen and he is smoking a romeo. Didn't the ration packs come with cigarettes back then? They did in 'Nam.
You mean besides that funny looking front end on the rifle?
what ever, any way the guy looks like Lee Marvin.
That Front Sight looks like it's from a Model 1917.
Looks like it's on a movie set.
Why does the French Foreign Legion wear those funny hats?
It doesnt look like the barrel goes past the lock screw, and the front sights look alittle screwy.
"GAS TRAP" AND SKI CAP (10TH MTN DIV?)
Well I know a few of yahs got it and were toying around. Dana actually said it except it is the 15th division. This is the cover of the Life magazine January 20, 1941 so well before we went to war and very logically when Gas Traps were still plentiful. You figure the change to gas port was just over a year earlier so many rifles were still in service with Gas Trap fronts.
Ed's answer was the funniest but made me think about the 1917 as the front sight is close so I wonder if John Garand got the Idea for the Gas Trap sight from hat rifle? Come on Ed you got the skinny on it in the pages hehehehehehehe. Thanks everyone. Rick B
