Search function didn't turn up anything---anyone ever send a H&R or NEF in for rebarreling to a different caliber? Was wondering if the results were satisfactory and you were happy with the conversion, any info or advice is appreciated.
I really want a rifle with a long barrel, they offer what appears to be the Buffalo Classic barrel for installation on the standard rifle.

Although I have never done it I hear the results are quite good. For a little over 100 bucks you get a new caliber. I have always thought that was a great way to have multiple calibers on a budget. The NEF/H&R rifles are quite nice. I had one in 223 remington. Friend shot it and said it was quite accurate. It sat in my safe waiting for the possibilities until I finally sold it.

I sent in my .45-70 and had them add a 22" 12 gauge barrel, now the bugger can knock the snot out of me two different ways!

Service was fast, and everything locks up tight, I'm probably going to send it to them again and have a .30-30 barrel put on, or maybe a .22 hornet.

I have had accessory barrels matched to my H&R with great result. I have a 45/70 and .45/410 presently and will most likely send it back in for additional barrels.

Go to the H&R web-site to ensure your receiver qualifies for the barrel you want.

The Buffalo Classic 32" barrel is available but does not come with sights.

Don't feel uneasy about it, they do a good job and you will be pleased, I'm sure. BUT follow their directions so all goes smooth. Actually the reason they want to fit the barrel to your receiver is mostly a liability issue

It is a good deal.

Too bad they dont make a 7.62x25mm Tokarev or 7.62x39mm barrels for it would make for a inexpensive milsurp shooter.

A heavy 20" cantilever scope mounted FN 5.7x28mm would make a great varmit rig.

About half my 14 Handi rifles' barrels came as accessory barrels from H&R. I have them all on dedicated frames and stock sets. I don't switch barrels. In more than one instance, the frame I sent in came back reblued. If you're trigger is heavy, and you request it, they will also give you a free trigger job. My latest accessory barrels are my Superlights in 7mm-08 and .223 and my standard .22-250. Fit and finish is excellent. Service is personal and fast.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions, it's on the way to be refitted with a 45/70 32" barrel.

Thanks for the info PeteMI. Within the next month I am going to be sending in my SB2 Frame for an accessory barrel or two. I have a Ultra Rifle in .25-06 and am thinking of adding a 26" .50 Caliber Muzzleloader Barrel and a 26" 20Ga Modified Choke Barrel also.

There are some rechambering options as well available for the Handi's cheaper than buying another new barrel.
Some of them are :
22 K Hornet
219 Zipper
225 Winchester
223 ACK
22-250 ACK
6mm ACK
280 ACK (WORKS BEST FORM 7-08 ORIGINAL CHAMBERING) but can be done from 280
30-40 Krag from 30-30
30-06 ACK from 308 chamber
357 Max a very popular rechamber from 357 Rem
356/358 Win from 357 or 35 Rem
445 super mag from 44 mag
45-90,45-100,45-110,& 45-120 (3 1/4") from 45-70
Also there are some others that will work also
Ejectors or extractors in some cases will have to be modified or replaced, but they are available from several sources
Replacing the barrel with a process known as "Stubbing" is also another choice.
Reboring to a larger caliber is also possible.
Lots of choices

I have both a superlight .223 and a standard .22-250. I wouldn't be without either. I load the 52 gr. Hornady BTHP for both with great results. If I were you I'd send my frame in for the .22-250 barrel.

One of my former hunting buddies did the barrel stubbing route and made a wicked little .357 Herrett carbine. 1:12 twist, .358" bore 16.5" barrel, reflex sight and short-pull stock. I tried to buy it when he passed, but someone beat me to it. I don't know what kind of velocities he was getting, but he claimed it was faster and more accurate than his .35 Remington 336 Marlin.

I have a T/C Contender in 357 Herrett. From a 14" bbl, throwing a 180 grain bullet, I get almost exactly 2000 fps (chronographed). It will put 10 consecutive shots into about 2" at 100 yards.

I have a H&R Handi Rifle in 22/250, my buddie at the gunshop was going to ream a Remington 700 in 22/250 into a 22/250 Ackley Improved, I asked him if he would like to practice on a $150 gun before he worked on a $600 gun. So I got my gun "Improved" for free, great Groundhog gun, real speed demon with 40 grain V-Max, 220 Swift preformance.
