Someone gave me the following method for refinishing the stainless steel gas cylinders.
Heat them up to over 500 degrees F and then drop them into dirty, used motor oil and it will blacken the metal permanently. He called it carbonizing.
Is anyone familiar with this, and does it work?
I would like a little more info before I get into my wife's oven and kitchen with a quart of used oil.

It is like bluing and yes it works just not always very dark. There is a guy on the CSP forum that does them for a couple of bucks. He notifies everyone when he is getting the oven going. They are done exactly as the government does and I think he will blue them also. They will give you his name if you ask over there. http://www.jouster.com/cgi-bin/garand/garand.pl Rick B
