I've recently inherited an older remington 1100. Semi automatic, fixed full choke. I've found it to be a pretty good predator gun out to 60 yards using #4 buckshot and would like to keep using it, however, I've recently heard somthing from a friend of mine that makes me leary to shoot the gun.

I've been told that the older 1100's had a recall put on them due to premature firing before the hull is chambered properly, blowing up the gun and taking some digits with it. I've looked for some information on the subject but haven't found any. I've written Remington but haven't heard back. I have a local gun shop looking into the matter for me as well, but haven't heard anything.

If anybody could enlighten me I would very much appreciate it.

My 1100 was one of the affected guns. It wasn't a recall, it was a class action suit. I sent in my paperwork and hoped nobody else did. There was 27 million up for grabs I think. The amount you recieved depended on how many people responded. I got a whopping $26.13. Oh well. I can't rmember exactly what it was, but it didn't affect my use of the gun at all. Mine used to be a competitive skeet gun and has had about 20,000 shells fired thru it and it is still ticking. I recall thinking "oh that's nothing, but I sure hope I get some money." Remington should be able to fill you in. It was a certain serial number range. I'm sorry I can't remember anything more. I found out about the suit from an add in a gun magazine, it said, "Attention Rem 1100 owners"

There was also a payout from them for the 870's of a certain serial number range. I bought an older 870 (ex-Lucas County Sheriff's shotgun), and emailed Remington about the serial number on mine. I don't want the big bucks like Eric got :). I just want to know what the problem/solution is. That was 5 weeks and 2 emails ago and still haven't heard anything. Tooly, if you get a response, please let me know. TIA.
