Ruger 10/22 slide release problem

Hi!

I have a standard LR 10/22 that has a problem from right out of the box. I didn't know at the time if it was me but I've come to realize it ain't! The bolt slide won't release when I depress the trigger guard latch. It seems to have a mind of its own, generally I have to pull the magazine out before I can get it to close?????Most of the time I have no idea what I do to get it to close!!!Do I have to return it to the factory, or can you give me some hint how to fix this??
Thanks for the advice.

Beg to Differ!

The 10/22 has a bolt/slide release (or if you want ,,,,,a slide HOLD-OPEN Release) on the trigger guard, not to be confused with the magazine release on the magazine proper.

P.S. Currently, I have it in to my gunsmith for evaluation
Just a Follow-Up on my earlier post about my 10/22.

I stopped into a gunshop and the owner showed me an older Ruger 10/22 and I'll be ****ed if the thing don't act the same way as mine!!!He was able to release the slide by pushing the release back and UP. When I tried nothin'!!! I couldn't get the ****ed thing to release. He said it was just a matter of getting used to the pulling back on the slide, pushing back and up with the other hand. Is this our best American craftmanship???
