I recently bought a used Saiga .410. The PO said he bought it 5 to 10 years ago. I have checked around on the web to find out how to determine the date of manufacture of my gun. Some say the first 2 numbers of my serial number (93). And others say the 2 digit number under the oval stamp on the left side of the reciever(01). Didn't know if different calibers or different models have different markings? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Danny

Sorry for the late response here, personally I've always gone by the two digit stamp under the oval on Saiga rifles. I've never owned a Saiga shotgun so I can't say if they are dated differently.

Another guy on another forum informed me that the first 2 digits of the serial number (93) are the date of man. And that the numbers under the Oval (01) are the date of inspection for customs. The funny thing is if he's right my gun sat around from 93 till 01 to be sold. His therory makes sense because the numbers are so far appart(93-01). My serial number is 93 XXXX . He said that they did the serial numbers in the early 90's with the date seperated from the rest of the serial. Now they are all together with no spaces.

Interesting, I'll have to look more closely at mine because this has me curious.

I just bought a new Saiga 12 last weekend. The serial numbers first 2 digits are 11 all tight together and the numbers under the oval stamp is 11.
