A friend of mine wants to trade to me a Saiga AK47 (7.62 x39) for an outboard motor I've got. So anyhow I did some searching on back threads and found out a little about the gun. Saigas seem to be a fairly good gun. Worth around $200? On another sight though they were talking them down saying that the piston wasn't the regular AK47 piston and therefor was hard to find. So, is this any big deal or not. How long does a piston last if cleaned regularly. And how often does the gun need stripped down and cleaned?

Thanks

$200 for a used Saiga X39 in good condition is perfectly fair if that's how much you value your outboard motor.

It is correct that not everything is AK-47/AKM standard, it is more AK-74/100 standard, and while some parts will go both ways, anything else is still available for the 74/100.

If you like it as it is, that's just the beginning of what it can become. You have the right idea on value, so go for it if it's what you want to do.

As far as cleaning goes, only when you feel like it. It seriously will probably last forever without cleaning. While cleaning is a good thing, I highly doubt you will have to clean it much at all.

Thanks guys. We settled on a value of about $375 to $400 for the outboard motor.
So he has got to come up with something else to throw in on the deal. I told him I'm in no hurry to get rid of the motor so I'll just hang on to it till he comes up with something. I'm want'n that gun but, he's want'n that motor even more!
BRG3, I'll be asking some upgrade questions if I end up getting it.

Back in the day they could be had for less. Nowadays that imports aren't happening (new company's still picking up) $240 NIB is a fine price. $200 used is a good price as long as thye condition is good.
