I got a Savage 111G last week with a wood stock and iron sites, and it's the sweetest thing. I have yet to put a scope on it, but I used it on a pop bottle at 50yds and it hit right below the cap. Sure, I was aiming for the body, but the sites are probably adjusted for farther away. What's amazing is I hit dead center, horizontally that is. Sure, at 50yds that doesn't seem too spectacular, but it couldn't have been more than 1/8" off. And 1/8" at 50yds means 1/4" at 100. Which is smaller than the size of the bullet. And this was with open sites, which are the best I've ever used. Oh, and did I mention that the caliber is 300 Remington Ultra Magnum? Recoil isn't nearly as much as I'd been made to think.
Only problem I have with the gun is that the mag lips seem a little tight. It seems to be unsure whether it's a double or single stack mag. Maybe my engineering skills can fix that. Until then, I'll shoot targets single shot. I'm looking forward to putting my new Weaver scope on it...
