Good to hear; just got a Yugo SKS for $109.99 on sale at our new retail sporting goods store. Still kind of cosmolined up, but somewhat used. Gotta clean it and I'm itchin to try it out. Bore looks pretty good though. Gonna stick a scope on it and have some fun with groundhogs. woo.

Okay, I'll try to get one up tomorrow if I have time, since I just cleaned it up tonight. I made sure to get ALL the gunk out of the bolt assembly around the firing pin-Slam fires sounds kinda exciting, but not for me. Its regular posted price at this store was 159 bucks. I got it cuz it was such a great deal, and I've been wanting one for a while. Said something like suggested retail was $250, elsewhere on the pricetag.. It has a REALLY shiny bore. Good rifling. I'm anxious to try it out. Granted though, it was one of the best looking of the 7 or 8 they had on the shelf. One of the others even had gibberish Cyrillic carved into the side of the stock, transliterated to "CFFFFHHHHB" I thought maybe it was # of kills. :D

Well, here she is. I'm gonna try her out as soon as I finish reading another chapter of my horrible econ homework. :eek:ff: Anywho, I just finished cleaning her up today, and I had to grind a little bit inside the gas tube with a stone, because there was some pretty bad rust & pitting in the first inch or so, and I wanted to smooth it out. The gas piston itself is chipped on the rings a little bit already, so I wanted to make the tube smooth again, in case the rust had chipped it. Other than that, it was in pretty good shape. Had a lot of grime, but that wiped off easily with kerosene on a rag. I'm happy with it. No cleaning kit in the stock, but the rod is still there. the front sight guard is bent a little, presumably from someone dropping it. Probably that salesman where I bought it. :drink: He dropped it in the box on the way out of the store (yay for escorts), and then when he was putting it in the car. I wish the stores would just let us carry a gun out by ourselves.. I mean, if I'm a psycho, I'm just gonna come back in 3 minutes later or something.

Sorry if they're too big..

Yugo power! I couldn't help but notice that the reciever top cover lever is broken:( Don't meen to pick. The scope mount, is it tapped and drilled or side mounted? Either way, it should shoot really accurate with a decent scope on it.

What lever? the one that lets you open and take out the gas tube? If so, that one's just not all the way seated in its dimple, cuz I wasn't sure if I was going to have to reopen it soon. And hey, I don't mind you "picking", SKS. :cheer: The scope mount is one of those unreliable (so I hear) upper receiver ones. Those screws (they look like set screws with jamnuts) just grip down onto the lower receiver. So maybe if I torque 'em real tight, it'll stay put. Although a lot of the mounts I see don't have that, so maybe it's a better one?? The mount itselft is drilled & tapped into the upper (removable) receiver. I put 6 rounds through the SKS today, but something was being weird. IT had good groups. I just couldn't get it consistent in 6 shots. And then I ran out of time cuz a storm was upon me. While shooting there was a moderate crosswind, at slightly less than 50 yards- prone, resting the stock on a small cobbled tripod. First shot was 6 inches high and an inch to the right (it kept shooting consistently high). Second shot was almost dead center, 6'' high, third shot was an inch to the left, same height. Last three shots hit considerably to the right- probably 6 inches- but within 1.5 inches of each other. Normally I would suspect my own shooting, but I was really careful to get the sight picture all lined up square, breathe, and squeeze the trigger on the last 2 shots. I think it might be the front site, cuz it was dropped,.. I'm gonna boresight it soon to see if I can tell anything. I'm hoping to pick up a scope for it soon. I'm more used to them anyway. Hopefully that was a long enough rant for you.
