Sure, everyone has figured out what gun(s) to grab if the SHTF. But in a case of NBC (Nuclear, Biological, or Chemical) attack, that's not what we're going to need. The question is, what will we? SportsmansGuide has Gas masks and Radiation pills. Besides the vintage gas masks, are there any that won't work in case of bio or chem attack? I know the Israeli one is rated NBC.
And is there any other stuff out there that would be neccessary, or superior or more affordable alternatives to the above?
And are there any particular procedures to use such equipment that would not be self-explanatory?

IN CASE OF EMEMGENCY BOKYAG....

alot of the gasmasks and other surplus NBC gear is either used or shelf life has expired which means their functionality is in doubt.
the US M-17 gasmask series used specific filters and general filters and were a b*tch to change. NBC requires frequent training and practice for proficciency.

now for the good part all the protective gear, no matter how good is useless with out a chemical detector, or other positive warning system. once the alarm is sounded you only have a couple minutes to suit up. i have absolutly no faith in the system giving us ample warning. a home grown chemical attack can happen anywhere anyplace, and we won't know it until we drop.

My only problem with getting gas mask for me and the family is DETECTION. I figure it this way....Im at home, work, driveing what ever....unless I have the gas mask on my hip....and see the plane spraying...I will not know chemical...bio weapons have been used in my area. By the time I see it on the news, people start doing the funky chicken all around me, or the goverment warns us, I will be the dead guy witht he gas mask on his hip.

I also ???? the servicability of gas mask and filters being sold...the OLD US mask generaly had black ring "training" filters...green ring for combat. The filters start deterorating as soon as they are exposed to air.....after X number of days (depending on the filters...humidity ect) they are worthless.

Same with the chemical suits....they sell them as scent blocking cloths for hunting....the USSR used all rubber suits but unless you were hipp deep in snow you fell out from heat exustion...the USA suits (actavated carcole lined cloth) were hot as heck and you were to imeditaly decon any spot exposed to chemicals...

i laugh at all the gasmasks sold, along with duct tape and plastic sheeting. the numb nutz just haven't a clue do they!!! buy more beer and relax!!

If the SHTF I certinaly hope I can "rescue"all the scared class 3 weapons that will be all alone at the local gun store Im sure they will need a good home.

I wouldn't worry too much about a mask. Best thing is to head upwind and just get out of the area. The contaminated area will not be that big,maybe a few miles.
