...in my 91/59 carbine. And it was shooting them extremely well. Then I ran out of my reloads and put in some Russian light ball milsurp...My gawd the fireball that came out of my muzzle then. Now somebody tell me less fireball is a GOOD thing!

For a nighttime photo session fireballs are GOOD GANNY.

Fireball comes from unburned powder! The more powder burned before it leaves the barrel the more efficient the powder burn propels the bullet. Less wasted powder.

Plus, lower fireball the less chance of them finding your firing position.

One of my brothers had some .357 Mag. reloads that he got at a gunshow in Houston that gave us a spectacular fireball and smoke cloud. The accuracy was great on them but very dirty.

Yep, I have some Russian stuff that is spectacular. It is also not uniform in size, about one in 5 won't chamber. I suspect it was supposed to be machinegun ammo or maybe just some rejects (though I bought it in a sealed metal canister.)

Shoot the same milsurp ammo in a rifle (M91/30) then a carbine (M-44, M91/59) and you'll see what 4" less barrel does to powder designed for the longer barrel.

Fireballs are good if ya have marshmallows and hotdogs

But it was my 91/59....no bayonet to stick the hot dogs or marshmallows on!

So if I shot these in my 91/30's, probably much less fireballs then?

Yep. I've fire fireball from my carbines then shot the same ammo in my M91/30s and the fireball was much less pronounced, if even visible.
These vids are with my M91/59.

Both with Russian light ball. Don't see near the flash with the rifles.
