I have a nice target Ruger Mark I .22 pistol. I have had it for decades. When it was new it was pretty reliable, but recently it is jam-prone. It is unusual to even shoot one magazine without getting at least one jam.

I tried to carefully bend the feed lips on the magazine just a little and I think it caused some improvement, but it is still jam prone.

I was thinking of just buying a new magazine for the pistol. This may be more dependable than continuing to fiddle with the existing magazine.

Does anyone know about this sort of problem, and does anyone know a source where a person can purchase a new magazine for this particular pistol?

    Thanks in advance--

Check out Cheaper Than Dirt and The Sportsman's Guide, too. One or the other of the current catalogs has Ruger Mark I magazines for sale; I just can't remember which.

If you can find a MK II mag, you can convert it.

Steve, there's no need to convert anything. The 2010 Fall Shooter's Catalog from The Sportsman's Guide has Ruger Mark I magazines in it.

On page 40, to right side of the page, see Item No. HXA-68821: 9 round Ruger Mark I (old style) .22 LR Mag. $21.97 each, $19.77 if you are a Buyer's Club member. That has to be easier than modifying a Mark II magazine to fit.

Take a Mk II magazine, remove the floor plate. Remove magazine spring, guide and follower. Reinstall components in the reverse order only this time insert the spring guide with the button sticking out the left side. Now you have a Mk I magazine. Not difficult at all.
