I have had 2 spanish mausers that was purchased long ago and both have had the stocks butchered . I am considering sporterizing one of them. They are both in 7x57 Fabrica De Armas and made in the Oviedo Spain arsenal. One is 1906 and the other has no date. I am wanting to do a full sporterizing in another caliber[barrel] Timney trigger, new bolt handle, low scope safety, hogue stock etc. I have heard that they dont have strong enough recievers to take the 308. I would like to rechamber it to .308. Iam not a gunsmith but have sporterized, rebarreled, chambered and head spaced about a dozen of large ring mausers,turks,vz24,k98,s etc... I have did 308 in two large. Maybe a gunsmith could give me some info.

You may want to PM one of the Moderators for advice on if it needs to be in the gunsmith forum. Good question.
