I received a full length rifle stock that needed repair with an 1895 Chilean barreled receiver from Old Western Scrounger. Started on it today. More work to do on it, but these things are pretty pricey now, so I decided to see what I could do with it. JOHN IMG_1485.JPG IMG_1488.JPG IMG_1491.JPG

Lookin good jw! Milsurps on the rise including prices for sure. I recall when the whole gun could be had for pittance. That area look like it should hold.

Good job JR. Was the stock missing the wood or was it just cracked but intact? Everyone I know usually repairs them because of price of a stock. I have seen Mauser stocks go for more than the complete rifle. Did you dowel rod the wood before gluing it or just clamped.

It was missing the wood .I took the easy way and drilled the replacement piece and glued and screwed it in place. I may use the screw hole for a screw in sling swivel instead of inletting a military swivel in place Getting the color to match is going to be the challenge. The receiver and bolt were OK except the bolt had the firing pin hole welded. The trigger guard/ magazine was rusty. The 1895 Chileans are a good , solid German made small ring and I consider them a better bet than the 93 Spanish actions available. Also no transfer fee on these.

Hope you used Titebond III, it's the best wood glue I've ever run across.
It'll literally hold past the level of the wood to stay in place.
In other words, the original wood will let go before the repair will.

Although I would have refinished the whole stock to maintain uniformity...
a bit OCD, but it works for me ;)

Looking good. As pricey as some of this milsurp stuff is now repairing is definitely in order...

I'll hold the pin driver while you swing the hammer. LOL. I don't think I have a pair of leather gloves that thick.

I used another bolt I had on hand. I did grind the weld off the bolt face and I may try it out later.

Was the bore plugged on the one you got? I notice on the OWS site that some of those Chilean rifles mention plugged bores.

The chamber was welded. I pulled the barrel and scrapped it.

Hmm, I was thinking about ordering one, but if it is in need of a bolt and a barrel I probably won't do it.

Picked up a 7mm 95 rifle barrel with a good bore and with sights. Put it on the 95 receiver and the headspace checks out fine. Still need to order a handguard and I'll have a complete nonmatching 95 full length rifle for a little over $300. JOHN IMG_1506.JPG IMG_1507.JPG IMG_1508.JPG

Action dont look bad at all J.R. Stock is nice also. Those handguards are not too much. Be nice when you get the handguard on it.
