Here is the story as he tells it: My grandpa was walking down in a ridge across a stream when he suddenly came across a Japanese Soldier. Took him by surprise. At this point my granpda had his rifle at his hip. He told the soldier to "Surrender" in japanese. Instead the soldier raises his rifle (this rifle) to his shoulder and aims. My grandpa shoots him with his rifle at his hip still. He picked up the rifle and has kept it till this day. Until he gave it to me along with his type 38. Which also has a sad story behind. Anyway the Mum is fully intact, bipod and AA Sight are all there. I also have the bayonet which was taken off the same soldier. This is the best looking Arisaka I have seen. Shoots very well to. Whick makes me all the more proud of it.

Very cool...

I had a Type 99 with the AA wings/mum intact that someone had sporterized the stock.
Barrel was so-so...paid $75 out the door for it, sold it for $150 to a guy that had a beauty correct stock, but no rifle.

Amazing. Sounds like a rifle to keep and pass down, and remember what your grandfather did for all of us.

What is the sad story? Better this way than the Japanesse soldier giving his grandchild an 03A3.
Thank your grandfather for being their. From FMJ.
Ive got one also. From Lane's Trading Post. $75. Disfigured mum. With Norma ammo and cold barrel, 8" high at 12:00 everytime. The third round moves to the lower left a bit. Love it. First shot, one kill.

Thats true but in the end I think its considered sad. Also the other sad story.. Behind the Type 38:
A Japanese soldier sniped my grandpas war buddy he went threw boot camp with threw the head from a palm tree. In mid-sentence. Grandpa shot him out of the tree.. Took the rifle. Which is marked as a "school training rifle". The firing pin and safety is missing from the bolt. Got lost durin the years with my mom and uncle messing with it as kids. This was in the Phillipines btw, and the first was on Okinawa. Ya. I'll definetly hold onto these and pass em down.
