The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel is about prehistoric people with a heavy emphasis on medicinal herbs. She really did her research and you'd need a herb book to find out dosages and such but it's still an interesting read. It's the first in a series and the others were not nearly as good, in my opinion.
