I have no idea how many different manufacturers make this apparently very popular rifle..I think there are alot..I was wanting to buy one but I don't know which one to get..I was looking at Olympic Arms, DPMS or just biting the bullet and saving up for the Bushmaster.

but no endorsement rings louder than what you chose for yourself

I am like many who could not afford the big name and went the kit route. I bought a dpms lower and then bought an E2 kit from A-1Sales -- the 24" barrel is great and I have found the rifle to shoot awesome with the good rounds. Also I have a DPMS upper received high mount flat top with and Oly Arms 6x45mm 20" barrel (took my first buck with this) -- this has a Leupold Vari X II with Millet rings and free floated barrel. Both cal's use the same bolt so caliber change is 15 seconds.

My first one was a DPMS assembled by my friendly neighborhood gun works. Next I purchased an Eagle Arms, by Armalite, by far the best bargain. It was about $100 less than a regular Armalite and $150 less than my bushmaster. And last but not least I purchased a Bushmaster XM15E2S a M4 copy, just so the other two would think they have a little brother. I love them all for seperate and distinct reasons. Each has a job to do and have been added to or changed to meet its intended function. First they have all been fitted with a compensator/muzzle break, Trigicon Reflex II on the Eagle Arms, combat sling for the DPMS and Eotech aimpoint type scope for the shorty Bushmaster.
All ARs are versatle enough to fit your intended uses, from punching paper to use when the SHTF.
I know joe will dispute this in favor of the AK but I assure you it also has a myriad amount of variations and configurations as I also have three of them in various models.

I got the Colt M4, a bit expensive but I figured that if the boys defending freedom use it , it should be good enough for my use.

Also I'm planning on buying a couple of assembled uppers from DPMS to mate them to my lower so I can have more options depending on the intended use.

My buddy has a Bushmaster, great rifle but he prefers mine for some reason. There are no complaints about the Bushmaster, it's just that the Colt looks a bit better. Price, the colt is a bit more expensive than the Bushy.
