Even if ALL the western movies were PURE FABRICATION, my wife and I would still rather watch those than 90% of what's been made since!
I grew up watching all the old cowboy TV shows and Saturday Matinee movies, from the 1950s on. They gave me a basic grounding in what it meant to be an American, a rugged individual, to have honor, and to be resourceful. They led me to seek membership in the BOY Scouts of America, which later stood me well to become an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
Frontier life was gritty and boring.
Hollywood couldnt sell Scury or lack of booze as the real west.
