sorry i know this question has been ask 1,000,000,000,000,000, times but when i tryed to serch it it brought up 90 some pages of anything and everything related to the caliber and anything rleated to the mosin.

Question for all the folks that reload for this caliber.

how many of you hunt with it?

and do any of you use the 150gr serria bullets reason im asking is i got my dies and geting ready to start working on a load that will work for hunting. and the 150s are all i can find in .311dia.

    thanks matt

I love mine to hunt with, it is a great round on par with the 308 winchester the 150's are nice but I prefer the heavier bullets, I actually bought my hunting rounds from Barnul (sp) they are 203 gr soft points (actual weight 204.4) I shot a deer in the neck with one and the exit hole was about the size of a quarter great performance, but I have also had luck with the 150's they leave about a 50 cent piece on the departing side

I've hunted deer and hogs for several years with my M-44 but I've never used Sierra bullets in it. I like the Hornady 150 gr. S.P.'s and the performance on deer is phenomenal. I use a stiff load of H4895(can't remember the exact charge) in Grafs cases and Win. L.R. primers that clocks about 2900 fps out of the short-barrelled M-44.

I just target shoot, so I use FMJ's. But are you just looking for heavier soft point bullets? Graf and Sons has a whole great big selection of .311" bullets.

I only picked up the heavies to see if I could get the point of impact down on my rifle... but I bet they play hell on deer, if I had enough $ I would have bought the same as you too.

  10. I'm using 150 Gr PRVI Bullets in my M38, though 5 years ago I shot a deer with my M44 using 203 gr SP Silver Bear ammo and it blew a 2 inch hole all the way through (shooting at it broadside) the deer I shot with them. I killed 2 deer that year with the M44 with the results being the same on both.

  14. I had the same result on a small doe with the silver bears out of a 91/30. :dunno:

I think the 203's are the way to go that is why I bought the 215's to try out!

  16. My M38 seems to like the 150 Gr PRVI bullets being pushed with a load of Varget. Giving inch groups or a bit less at 100 yards.

    7.62

I just ordered a bullet mold for 7.62X39, makes .312 dia. 155 grain round nose. Can I not use these reloading for my Mosins?. I imagine it would really do a number on a deer. Anyone try molding LR for hunting. If I remember correctly, the factory load 7.62X54R is about the same velocity as a 30/06. Would these not work very well in my 91/30 sniper? My avatar is of me with a M-14 sniper in Viet Nam, 1968.

The bullet can be used for the MN rifles but unless you have a Gas Check on the base of the lead bullet and a REALLY good lube n the bullet you will have so much leading in the bore that you will never get it out. Lead WITH gas checks are good to about 2400 fps and a MN will push a 155 gr bullet at 2900 which is way too fast for lead, try buying a 200 gr bullet mold to get velocity's down

    molds

10-4 on gas checks. I got it to reload for my MAK 90 and SKSs. Will add lots of tin and sodder.
