The 44mag did the job. The rifle is a Ruger 96/44. 240gr. Speer gold dot with a max load of H-110. The deer was about 60yrds out and quartering away. The bullet struck just in front of the rear ham chopped up for ribs tranversed the animal chopped four more ribs and came to rest just under the skin at the front shoulder. I recovered the Gold dot it measured .800 and had 100% weight retintion. I estimate the bullet to be traveling above 2000fps at the muzzle.
