    Top 10 Crime Guns Revealed
    7/17/2002

A new study from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF)
identifies the top 10 guns used in crimes throughout the United States
during 2000, Time reported July 12.

Topping the list is the Smith and Wesson .38 revolver, followed by the:
Ruger 9mm semiautomatic; Lorcin Engineering .380 semiautomatic; Raven
Arms .25 semiautomatic; Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun; Smith and Wesson 9mm
semiautomatic; Smith and Wesson .357 revolver; Bryco Arms 9mm
semiautomatic; Bryco Arms .380 semiautomatic; and Davis Industries .380
    semiautomatic.

The list was compiled from ATF investigations of 88,570 guns recovered
from crime scenes in 46 cities in 2000.

The report will be used as part of the ATF's youth gun-crime
interdiction initiative, which helps local police departments understand
and counteract gun trafficking among youth in their jurisdictions.

Although the Smith and Wesson .38 revolver is an old-fashioned six
shooter, it leads the list because there are millions in existence. The
semiautomatics on the list indicate the preferences of street criminals.
In addition, gun traffickers tend to deal in cheap semiautomatics
because teenagers can afford them. :p :p

  2. I need more guns. I only have one in the list

I've got three. But I really don't think I'd like to own some of those 'cheap' semi-automatics.

  4. As someone point outed out on TFL, the key words may be "recovered at crime scenes." I wonder what the real pros use when they plan on keeping their pistol...

I guess Herr Klinton's program worked. No "evil assault weapons" on that list. I know the drive-by bayonettings have really come down in my neighborhood...

Maybe these BATF statistics will help alleviate the current ban that, I believe, runs out in 2004.

    I got 4, should I turn them in now?:p

  7. If the BATF list is a fair representation then I got the majority of street thugs really out-gunned.....fer sure.

Not only outgunned, but outskilled. When do you think these guys get to practice? I tend to think an armed citizen who practices is more competent than a criminal who has to evade identification and capture.

An important gun was left off the list.

Can't believe my Browning Sweet 16 shotgun with polychoke wasn't on the list. Now that's a killer of a gun. (ha)

My first gun was the Davis .380
It made a better snow tire than a gun.

The only one I got that's close is the Davis, but mine's in .32 acp. So I guess I'm a criminal wannabe.

No calvin it makes you politicaly correct...this will lead you to suddenly wanting a "Latie" as opposed to coffee...Tufu instead of hotdogs, you will then want to move to Calf.....the only cure is buying a MINIUM of each of the guns on the list...pluss an AK-47..AR-15 and a few other "Evil balck guns"....sure the cure is expensive but you must act fast before its too late and you start saying things like "Gee Bill Clinton makes a lot of sense".

As soon as I finish cooking my JTM's on my electric grill and finish my double-half-caf-decaf, I'm catching the bus to the local coffee house to catch a ride with a friend in his hybrid Honda to the local firearms dealer. There, Doglips!! And you were worried.......
