Went to RRA's website and they're advertising 308 caliber ARs using FAL magazines. Look just like Bushmaster's BAR-10s to me, so perhaps part of the decision to retire their 308 line included an offer by RRA to buy designs and perhaps even tooling. Pricing looks like it will finally be competitive with Armalite's AR-10s.

Then I picked up a gun related magazine and came accross an ad for DPMS that made my jaw drop. DPMS will be releasing their long range rifle originally chambered in 308 and recently upped to 300 RSAUM in the highly accurate underappreciated 260 Rem caliber. I've been wishing and wishing that someone would do that and now it looks like it will be done in a bull barrel and standard barrel version.

When money comes around, might have to go for a DSA FAL and RRA AR-10 with matching mags and a DPMS in 260 for maximum accuracy. That's a lot of dough but each will be one heck of a rifle.

I've heard of that RRA was doing something with a .308. I've also heard that an AR in .204, .243, .260 is on the horizon. Good lord, the calibers people are working on with the AR platform.

243's been done by Armalite, but 260 is a round with amazing accuracy potential fitting to the AR system. I'm not particularly interested in the 204 myself, especially in a semi-auto, but it's neat to see them expanding their line and options.

All this talk of AR's, I didn't realize till just a few days ago that it's now legal to stick M16 bolt carrier groups into an AR.

Umm, huh? Since when? That's entirely independent of the expired AW Ban.

Unless I'm wrong on this one, putting M-16 parts into AR-15 lower receiver that is not registered as a "automatic" weapon (machine gun) or all of the necessary ATF paperwork will land you in some very deep doo doo. Just mere possession of M-16 parts is a going away felony. I'd double check with the ATF just be on the safe side.

Nope, saw the ATF paper on it, you can now use M16 bolt carrier groups. Let me try and find it and post it.

So basically, you can put all the M16 parts you want into a rifle, as long as it doesn't fire more than one round with one pull on the trigger.
