I've heard that the 300 Weatherby mag is inherently innaccurate, but what are the real numbers, ie group sizes? I'm considering it against a Savage 300 Remington Ultra Mag.

I can't speak for anyone else but my personal Fibermark with a 6.5 - 20 Leupold is sighted in at 625 yards. It shoots well enough that is is my longer range gun I use for varmits. Shoots well with all weight bullets but prefers the bullets in the 180gr. range.

I think you'll find that some people find the larger guns tend to kick a bit more and tend to be less accurate for them, not anything to do with the gun, just lack of ability to fire a 5 or 10 shot string without an occasional flinch or jerk of the trigger. I've found this to be true when shooting with others and they shoot someones large caliber handguns, shotguns, muzzleloaders and rifles. Takes lots of practice and discipline to shoot the big guns as well as the small ones.
