Veterans ID

  1. This may be a silly question but.....Where do you get official Veterans Identification....

I presently have an ID card issued by my local county.

The VA was SUPPOSED to start issuing ID cards last year, that was pushed out to this year, but has run into problem after problem with the site. Last time I checked was a couple months ago though.

I don't see where it would do me any good so I haven't pursued it.

Both my parents had VA IDs, but they primarily were to allow access to their files in the computer system. I don't think they were intended to be used as ID in the same way drivers licenses and passports are.

I don't have a card but on my driver's license there is a notation that I am a veteran. Don't know about other states - I live in Ohio. It is useful for stores like Cabela's or any time I need to prove I am I vet. I've had this since I was discharged from the Army.

I know here in Texas you can get it on your drivers license. You just have to bring in your DD214 and pay the fees.

    You are correct.
    I forgot about this.
If you take your DD214 to the DMV.
They will issue you a new Veteran license, that has a American flag on it. waving_flag2.gif

Like I said, it don't do squat for you except maybe a free meal at the Golden Trough once a year, so it's not worth 3 hours of DMV hell.

My veteran's administration ID card is good for discounts all over. Lowe's, Home Depot come out right on the top of my head. Various barbers will give me a discount. Casinos in Biloxi give me discounts at their eateries. I know I get a discount at Office Max.

My guess, if your a vet, your leaving money on the table. As mentioned, need to understand what your times worth and how bad you want it.

I got my ID card from the VA! And here Bama a Purple Heart licence plate is free (your first one, and only the licence fee is waved, not the ownership tax) so I guess my vehicle registration is also proof.:usa:

I tried to go jump through their hoops and get my ID, but the IDme verification page kept jerking me around when trying to validate my phone number, it kept coming back that they couldn't. I emailed them and a guy gave me a workaround, but I haven't done it yet, just been too busy around the place and shop.

You can get that in Virginia, if you're willing to fork over an extra ten bucks at registration and ten more every year you renew.

    3 hrs at the dmv?
the only way I'm spending 3 hrs at the dmv is if the sheriff sees me through the window or if the cute little blond girl is working the counter.
or if my wife catches me talking to her that long again and has my truck keys.
