Walther Q5 Match

I bought one of these a few months ago ...

And I am super happy with it! It came in a combo package from Ky Gun Co fitted with a Vortex Venom optic. It shoots excellent groups so effortlessly that it is almost like cheating.

Initially, I had an issue getting it zeroed. It shot 6" high with the optic adjusted all the way down. I did some googling and found that to be a common problem. I bought a $10 Delrin Shim 1.0 Degree for Vortex Venom from UM Tactical and some longer screws and the problem was solved.

My fiancee, Kathy has been shooting a S&W 3919 Lady Smith for about 6 years. It is a fine pistol; but, not a target pistol. So, she has been getting a little discouraged with her groups at 10 yards. In April, we attended a Revere's Riders Ladies Only Basic Pistol Class. I was serving as RSO. So, I suggested that she shoot the new Walther.

Her groups improved so much, now she wants one too!

Including the shim, screws, shipping, transfer and optic...I've got about $930 in it.

I just read the article last night! I considered getting the Q5 Match SF, the steel framed variant; but, at $1495 without optic, it was a little out of reach.

“This is our big time gun. It’s not for everybody,” Osborne said while pointing out the $1,400 price point. “This is not a gun that your normal guy is going to up and grab. This is a gun that you buy to make your friends envious. That pushes the limits of performance when you get down on the range.”

The 9mm design replaces the polymer frame and the internal guide rod of the original model by constructing it entirely out of steel. While the change adds an extra pound to the gun, it results in smoother, faster shooting. Osborne explained they tested the differences between the polymer-framed Q5 and the all-steel one with Walther’s pro shooters. Looking at timed-match shots of 20 rounds the average split dropped from 0.75 seconds to 0.4.

I've never met a Walther that I didn't love the fit and feel of!

Me too! Several years ago, my step son brought a new CCP to the range and let me shoot it. I was never really a striker fired pistol guy; but, I loved the feel and accuracy so much, I ordered one on the spot. It replaced a PPK .380 has been my every day carry for 20 years.
