Quick? homemade water cooler. 5 gallon plastic bucket (food grade) with lid. Spigot from hardware store. Plastic is good. drill hole in side of bucket near bottom and install spigot with nut and seal. Add ice if available and fill with water. I built one of these several years ago but it seems to have disappeared. even without ice it would be handy sitting on the kitchen counter.

I’ve never put much thought into water storage, as we have it everywhere in my area. We have lakes, ponds, and rivers in the summer, plus blankets of snow for 6-9 months out of the year. My thoughts have always been more towards sources and purification. We have plenty of bleach at the house, plus the stove for boiling. If the power grid goes, I have the grill and a couple camp stoves that I can use. Some life straws would be good to add to our kits, or even iodine tablets.
