What is LAR target barrel??

    I note that CMP has a LAR target barrel listed ($170). What is it? Is it that much better than a SA target barrel? Thanks
  2. Are you sure it doesnt say VAR??? If it does it is a Danish barrel.

    I think you mean LMR, not LAR. LMR was the manufacturer's code for Line Material Co. of Birmingham, AL, which made barrels for the IHC M1s. The LMR barrels are reputed to be the most accurate of the M1 barrels, and have long been in demand for use on match grade rifles.

    "Target Grade" is used by CMP to indicate a barrel with very little wear. It does not mean that the barrel is necessarily any more accurate than any other barrel, just that it has very little throat erosion and muzzle wear.
