I have 2 Winchester 1200's 12ga and 20 ga. I have 2 11-48 Remmingtons 12 & 20 and Two Mossbergs an 835 and a 500 20 ga. One thing I like about the 1200's is that they are lightweight, But when I go to the woods I usually grab one of my Mossbergs. My Winchesters and Remmingtons have very nice wood on them and I dont want to ding them up any more. I like to use the 11-48's for trap.
I got a 1400 winchester in about 1975 and hunted with it for over 20yrs, Everything from doves, turkeys, ducks,geese and deer with only one small problem a piece of brass off of a shell got in the saftey blocking it. No big deal just a good cleaning. I gave it to a grandson several years ago and it is still going good. All said it has been a very god gun, now for the bad side as a gun trader I don't trade for them unless they are cheap as they don't move in this area very wellusually around $150 or less Rustyb

I have a 1200 which I love. When my son was born, I bought 1400, 12ga, vent rib for him. He never picked up the sport so I used it from squirrels to geese, and loved it.Nice wood, beautiful checkering. It was bought in 1975 also, and I sold it 6 years ago for $200.

1400 still available
I have one. 20 gauge is nice for recoil. Gone around and around trying to get s slug barrel for it this Fall. Cant get a slug barrel for it for my daughter so I'm selling it to get a Mossberg. It has interchangeable screw in chokes. Last used trap shooting few years ago. In case ever since. Guessing made mid '80s. Wood and condition is good to very good. a chip on forarm that someone repaired before me. I bought from dealer.

My father has a Win 1400 in 12 gauge, bought back in the 70's. A bit later I had a gunsmith put a Polychoke on it. We used it for duck hunting mostly, it has milder recoil than our Rem 870 pumps. Once in awhile, a shell can get hung up when loading, but other than that, never a problem.
If you're in the market for a semi-auto shotgun with limited magazine capacity, go with the progenitor to the 1400: the Remington Model 58 or the 878. They have a much better feel, IMO.I have been looking for a winchester 1400 for a couple years do you still have it for sale

Maybe I'm just partial to Remingtons but I've always found the Winchester 1200 and 1400 to have a very cheap feel to them.
At the very least, the Remingtons have a more ergonomic bolt release. Hell, the Remingtons are more ergonomic, period.
Personally, if I was hopping from pawn shop to pawn shop, I'd be looking for a Remington 11-48. Long-recoil action, like the Browning A-5/Remington Model 11, but with streamlined reciever. I'd even go for a Sportsman 48, since all you have to do is drill out that dimple in the magazine tube.
