I bought a box of 100 Winchester shotshells thinking they'd be better than the Federals, but found one shell kind of... messed up. It seems as though the plastic was haphazardly mounted to the base, basically with part of the plastic on the outer side of the metal. Naturally, I deactivated that round. Has anyone else has the same experience?

never had a problem like that in as long time of shooting shotguns. Keep in mind it's a very high speed production process. You did the right thing by actually looking/inspecting your ammo before chambering. Winchester may be interested.
