    1. "The United States Aircraft Carrier that never was".....

The USS United States (CVA-58), was a newly designed aircraft carrier. Five days into construction, after her keel had been layed into place, her project was cancelled by President Harry S. Truman. Afterwards... a (4th) aircraft carrier was laid down as the USS United States, but...during her construction she was renamed the Harry S. Truman. The unofficial joke at this time was President Truman had "twice killed" the USS United States as an aircraft carrier.
