Well that isn't what the STAG ARMS website said when I ordered a 6.8SPC lower from them a week ago. It was shipped to my FFL and when I went to pick it up today, the BATFE denied the form because I am not 21 yet. IT IS A RIFLE THAT SHOOTS RIFLE ROUNDS!! It is also just a lower reciever so it obviously is not a pistol! The guy at the gunshop said they will have to hold the reciever until I am 21 in a couple of months and then I can pick it up.

Am I completely oblivious to this law? Does anyone else know anything about this?

Washington state pulled the same crap on me when i went to buy a striped lower about a month before i turned 21. apparently they reclassified striped lowers from rifle or Pistol (to be decided at time of purchase) to "other" where you have to be 21 no matter what it will be build as

It varies by state, in MD if you are gonna put an HBAR on it you can buy it outright like any other rifle or shotgun, if you are gonna put a lighter weight barrel on it you have to go about getting it like handgun.

That has to be crap. I bought a Rock River receiver last summer and I was only 19.

Couldn't you have the gunshop put a buttstock on it? Once you do that, it is a rifle, and must always be a rifle.

I bought a fully assembled lower with a fixed buttstock already attached to it...

A lot of places online require you to be 21 to order from them. It SUCKS.

well thats the thing, the site said I have to be 18. I already ordered it and it is sitting at my FFL's gunshop. I went and held it today expecting to pick it up. The BATFE declined it because they, in their infinite wisdom, decided I have to be 21 to pick it up. O well, I guess I can wait 50 more days before my second amendment right applies to me...

when you turn 21,maybe the gunshop will put a bow on it, and have a little birthday cake too.:fest06:

You must have some good gun shops nearby! These guys will probably charge me a fee for having to store it so long...

Gee, they used to make people wait until they were 21 to vote too. Judging from the last election, it might be a pretty good idea to reconsider dropping that age requirement as well.

I was in the military when I purchased my first handgun at the base PX. I then had to register it at the MP HQ, per post regulations. I took the S&W Model 28 to the MP HQ and they informed me that I had to be 21 to purchase a handgun and since I was 19, I had to take the handgun back. I filled out the form when I bought the thing. I guess the clerk at the PX should've known the law too. Learn something new everyday.

With 20K laws on the books, most contradicting others, not even the people that enforce them know the law.I am quite sure I read some place where a minor could get a special variance if shooting certain competitions. ,,,sam.

your dealing with your states laws. here in MN you've got to have a pistol purchase permit to buy a black rifle.

.... as you walked off to training with your tanks, grenades, machine guns, and rocket launchers...

Uncle Sam takes all and gives nothing in return it seems like sometimes.

From what I've been told, a stripped lower is considered "other" on the form to BATF, which means you have to be 21 or older to get it. Lower makers have a separate serial number series for their stripped lowers versus complete rifles so you don't have to pay the extra excise tax on them.

    No such rule here.

I stand corrected !! I checked into it. "Other" does require you to be 21.
