    That is a cool picture.

I thought I was pretty cool hanging out as a Ranger Instructor of Desert Phase Ranger School. This picture was taken about a month before I retired and a month before they deactivated Desert Phase. President BJ Clinton didn't see a need for Rangers to get desert training. Back when Ranger wore Black Berets and not tan.

Ha ha. Makes it even sweeter. I was a 1Sgt (AF Type) and dogs are my thing. Glad he got him in the picture. Dogs are pretty good judge of character that heeler may have had dirt on the Bn Cmdr.
Hey who’s gonna tell the Top or Shirt they can’t have the dog in the pic?

Still on my top 10 favorite movie list is Bat 21. I do have a bit of bias for FAC stuff though.

I went to AF Survival School in 1984 and the book Bat 21 was recommended reading. It is a very good book and covers more details than the movie, although I thought they did a very good job with the movie.

Helluva backstory on that. The downed electronic warfare officer (EWO) had extensive knowledge of the US's Single Integrated Operations Plan (SIOP) for nuclear response and had worked with SAC as the corporate knowledge of their ballistic missile program.

As well as being an EWO (most captured EWOs were sold to Russia).

Kinda wonder what he was doing in a combat zone to begin with in that he would have been of huge value to the enemy if captured alive.

It is a great feeling to get a brother out though. Had the privilege of being on one of the (successful) SAR packages in Bosnia in 1995.

One of things they discussed in AF Survival School was that that was the last time they made the mistake of sending someone on a combat mission that had the knowledge that he had. It's funny how sometimes we have to really screw up to make a determination that should have been clear in the first place. Lol Gotta love Military thinkers!

I spent 2 1/2 years assigned to Military Intelligence Bn. We use to say MI stood for Malicious Idiots. lol

I have to admit, we have some incredible people, with incredible minds and talents working in our MI. I left that assignment totally impressed at their capabilities.

Just found in one of my files. Keep in mind this was early 1968 Quan Loi S. Viet Nam. If I remember right, their radio call was Bird Dog. When I watched Bat 21 I was surprised they had call sign Bird Dog. Friend of mine, retired FBI after quitting our PD told me he flew in one out of Phu Loi, later than me. He said they would go out and asses B-52 damage. He told me after a bomb run there would be nothing left on the ground. Project19.jpg

Pretty close to the original pic of this thread. This was taken at Fleet Matches in 2013. We were up at Quantico for about a week. We weren't allowed to drink at the ancient barracks they had all of the enlisted shooters assigned to so we would go out into the woods, which there are lots of on the old side of Quantico. We were sitting out there polishing off this delicious 12 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon when a freaking helicopter started to descend into the clearing next to where we were parked. We got out of there in a hurry!
