Starting a new batch of 45 acp been a while. I had real problems seating priers. I think the brass was Federal and Blaer. Does that sound right?

If you have Fiochi Large Pistol primers they have been known to be, not out of spec. But a bit on the + side, requiring really clean pockets. They mostly will seat, if the pocket is really clean. However still a bit snug on the way in, and easy to short stroke. Especially with Federal Brass. Had an issue in the past. But re seat did the job.

I am using Federal Brass, (at least the last couple loadings). But use nothing but, Federal Large Pistol Primers now. At the moment, anyway. No current Issues.

Federal (and many other manufacturers) are now making Both Small and Large primer brass for 45ACP. So if newer range pick up(in the last 3 years or so). You need to check to see if you have large or small primers brass.
Exactly right Moroco Mole, timely post. Since I have no large pistol primers, I have been shooting Blaser with the small pistol primer pockets. All other 45ACP brass with large primer pockets is segregated until I do have the correct primers.

Small pistol primers have shown me no noticable difference in 45 acp then large. Load wise.

Just a pain in the butt, segregating them.
I use the little Lee primer pocket cleaning tool. The stick looking thing, with large on one end, and small on the other.
Makes quick work of sorting, and you can clean the pockets while doing it.

For some States, Manufacturers are going to Eco friendly ammo. It is required now on indoor ranges. In some Blue States. Thus Eco friendly primers. Which happen to not work well in large size.
The small primer brass is an attempt to keep selling to indoor ranges.Because the loss of sales would be detrimental. Also to give the Police legal indoor practice ammo in restricted areas
Unfortunately to make eco friendly primers cost effective, so much has to be produced.
Thus the overflowing, of none traditional, small pistol, 45 acp Range ammunition into the open market. Sometimes sold without the Eco designation on the box in none required areas.

10 mm I haven't heard anything about, only 45 acp fmj's.

Eventually, there is the possibility of a Nationwide law baning all ammo that cannot be produced with the eco friendly primers. Under the guise of eco friendliness. Taking our rights an inch at a time.

W 231 --- HP 38, seams to be a bit dirtier with small ACP. But not greatly. Also on my loads it does not seam to effect accuracy. At least, not to a degree. I have not needed to change my charge weight to switch between small and large primer with W 231.

Of course for switching. I would recommend backing off charge weight a bit. Then building up, as results may vary with brand primer, bullet weight, gun and all.

I have found a concerning amount of inconsistency, using small primers, with "Long Shot", though.
