Good little rifle. The Ithaca Model 49. I had one til somebody broke into my home a few years ago and stole it, along with others. Mine would not adjust to shoot on bullseye with the sights, and there is no provision for scoping it. But it grouped well. It preferred CCI Maximags.

 

Wow nice score rando. Yep a friend had a Ithaca lever in 22 mag in late 60s. Not sure of the model but it was a repeater I believe. Your's looks like that old fashioned quality build from yesteryear. try some CCI 40 grainers and ya got a great woods varmint shooter.

 

I don't think I've ever seen a Martini-Henry action with an external hammer before. Nice rifle. Color me envious.

 

Enjoyed this thread. Sometimes am surprised that guns of this quality can still be had for cheap prices. Quality firearms with walnut and decent bluing should be selling for more but many times can be found for less.

 

At that time, Anthony Imperato's father was a designer for Ithaca. He had nothing to do with this M49 rifle, but he did design the Ithaca M72 Saddlegun. That little rifle eventually became today's Henry Model H001. Parts interchange. Cool, eh?
