My friend, the law tends to frown on folks who want "suppressiors"

Why would the law frown on them? They are perfectly legal to purchase and possess. From my understanding, as long as you pay your $200 tax on them no one can say anything to you about them. I think the law only frowns on the guys who make them in their garage out of pipe or 2-liters and electrical tape.

My cousin recommends this company. I have no experience with suppressors so I can not attest to their quality or prices.

try posting the question on the class III forum, someone can help you out. there are some hoops to jump thru to get one but it is all perfectly legal. I'm just not 100% sure on the actual application procedure. (also check state laws, from my understanding they are only legal in 38 of the 50 states). a $200.00 tax is imposed and papers have to be in posession where ever you go with the item. I know a lot of people that own them legally, Pistol and rifle (some have several for different guns). there was even a suppressed competition reciently, or soon to be, over in Georgia a lot of them guys have been practicing for.
hearing a 308 suppressed, firing subsonic ammo is quite a treat. the bullet hitting dirt at 100 makes more noise than the round going off.


DO NOT posess one that is unregistered! if you get caught with one it is a Federal offense.

Maybe you don't mind if the Government knows how many times you wipe yer a** in the morning,but some of us like our privicy. Also some folks don't care much for pointless taxes. So if you'er a fan of the Dept. of Homeland Security cavity seach,have fun. I and many others don't need a few 1,000 a**holes 3,000 miles away stickin' thier corupt,self-serving power hungry jag-offs' noses in our business. I'm sorry if any thing I said hurts your feelings,just tryin' to make a point.

Jeez they're expensive aren't they?? At home (UK) .22rf silencers sell from about $40.

I agree laws are sometimes completely ignorant and ridiculous and I enjoy my privacy as well. But people who don't follow the laws are the ones who cause laws to become even more strict. One bad apple spoils the whole bunch, right?

I follow the laws BECAUSE I like my privacy. Prison isn't too private from what I hear. I would much rather pay a $200 tax than spend 10 years or even 10 days in prison for a FEDERAL OFFENSE.

I have no desire to own a suppressor or anything else that can be deemed illegal if not obtained correctly. I enjoy my freedoms, so I will continue to follow the law and play by the rules. I enjoy shooting and owning my guns, and a FELONY would make that very hard to do.

You don't hurt my feelings a bit, but that kind of attitude does piss me off. I agree that the Government often oversteps its bounds and tries to dig too deep into my life and yours, but they run the place.

Waltherize, I suggest you contact the ATF and find out what you have to do to LEGALLY obtain a suppressor if you would like to have one.

Don't be fodder for the already Left-wing/anti-gun media that is so well-liked and trusted in the US. Headlines like "man caught with illegal home-made silencer" do NOTHING but aid the anti-gun agenda.

But, to each his own.

I Hear Ya.

That is our main reason for getting them on request.
If a Chief Constable (Top cop of the Area Force) were to refuse a request for a silencer/sound moderator and you develop hearing issues primarily due to noise from firearms shooting you can now bring a civil action against said Chief Contstable under our Health & Safety laws.

It's great when you can use the laws to your advantage for a change. We normally get silencer approval on request now for virtually all firearms. No Tax Stamps or extra payments.

 

I am in the process of buying a Gemtec Outback II.22 supperessor. they are one of the smallest and quietest. I don't have a link but google Gemtec supperessors. Wunhunglo- you are right, what you pay $40. for costs about $300. here! plus the b.s. $200 tax stamp.

OK,lets stop and take a few deep breaths,I came across a wee bit strong and you're tryin' to split hairs with the legal jargon. Let me try to make myself understood.
where I live we are all very proud indepenendt patriots,what I mean by that is we strongly believe in the Bill of rights and in the last election 90%of us voted Constitutionalist.Most of us are retired war dogs,and the last thing we want is government in our lives. We respect the law,but we don't let our morality stand in the way of how we want to live our lives.my first post was an attempt to help a kid out by givin' him the option of free choice,I just don't want him buyin' something that'll blowup and kill him,Oh yeah,I have a dealers licence...I don't pay tax.

To the Original Poster...If you live in a State where it is Legal to own a suppressor , then you fill out an application for one thru a licensed dealer, get you Chief LEO to sign off on it , pay the Tax , and wait to be approved by the BATFE , and get your Tax stamped Paperwork so you can then pick up your suppressor LEGALLY.
Anything else is just asking for Trouble...
